One of my goals for the new year was to start back making smoothies, particularly green smoothies. Green smoothies are a great way to ease in fruits and veggies, especially if you have a busy schedule. They are packed with fiber, vitamins, and nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, and potassium.
Tropical Fruit Green Smoothie
I know many are working from home, or remotely (including virtual learning with the kiddos), so a smoothie is quick, easy, and a delicious way to start the day. My goal is to make at least two green smoothies per week to help me get back into a routine.
Eat the Rainbow
You can play around with different fruits and vegetables and see what you like and what you don’t. I love using spinach because it gives me a nice dose of leafy greens and it’s relatively tasteless. I also use kale from time to time. Did you know kale is in the cabbage family? Well, now you know! In smoothies, kale can be a little punchy—however, I did find freezing helps cut down on the bitter bite. Don’t ask me how or why. It just works! But spinach is my jam!
Smoothies are fun for the imagination
There really is no wrong way to make a smoothie. You can use add-ins such as superfoods like chia seeds, cacao nibs, or acai berries. I’ve also been using plant-based milk in my smoothies. I absolutely love it! Oatly oat milk seems to be my favorite thus far. Yes, even more than everybody’s favorite “almond milk”. It tastes the closest to cow’s milk, and I even use it to dunk my Oreos. It tastes great in this Whipped Coffee recipe too!

Tropical Fruit Green Smoothie
Equipment
- High-powered Blender I use a Vitamix
Ingredients
- 1 cup Tropical Fruit Medley (pineapple, mango, strawberry, banana), frozen
- 1 handful spinach
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed
- 1 cup oat milk
- stevia, to taste optional
Instructions
- Add oat milk, tropical frozen fruit, handful of spinach to blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Makes one smoothie.
- Double the recipe if making for two.
- If you add more strawberries it will still be green (and delicious), but more brownish-rouge in color. But you know what they say, the darker the berry the sweeter the juice. In this case, the sweeter the smoothie!
