For the love of peppermint and chocolate…
My love for peppermint and chocolate runs deep. Add one of my favorite cookies and we have Peppermint Oreo Bark! Peppermint Bark is one of my absolute favorite treats (ever), especially this time of year! When the season rolls around, like my favorite egg nog, my favorite peppermint bark is hard to find. Then I got to thinking…I would love to make it myself, so I can get my fix whenever I want. I made it for the first time last year, and I never shared it because the holidays were coming to a close. So this year I decided to make it official! I made it for the family for our Christmas Eve party, and everyone loved it! And of course, if you didn’t Instagram it, it didn’t happen. Well…it happened.
Not your ordinary Peppermint Bark
This isn’t just any peppermint bark, this one is special. One because I made it, and 2) well…I wanted to add a fun element to it. You know my love for Oreo cookies, so I decided to throw them in the mix! It’s super easy to make, so you better believe from here on out…I will be making my own bark for the holidays. I only eat peppermint bark during the holiday season, just like I only indulge in my pumpkin spice treats during October and November. You’ll never buy store-bought again. So let’s get to this chocolatey-minty goodness!
Ingredients Needed:
Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels
Premium White Baking Chocolate
Oreo Cookies
Candy Canes
Peppermint Extract
Tips for before making your bark!
- If you have a square dish, you can use it as your mold instead of a baking sheet.
- I love using peppermint extract, but if you would rather allow your candy cane pieces to serve as the mint flavor, you can leave it out. I love the extra dose of mint!
- Use a rolling pin, canned good, or mason jar to crush your candy cane pieces and Oreo cookies in a spill-proof baggie.
- You can also use the double broiler method for melting your chocolate. Melt until it’s 90% melted, once you take it off the heat it will finish “melting”.
- When using the microwave, reduce power and heat in 20-25 second increments. Make sure you melt and stir in between heating, then add your oil to help create a cohesive, smooth melt when pouring over your pan or into your dish.

Oreo Peppermint Bark
Equipment
- Rolling Pin or Jar
- Parchment Paper
- Baking Sheet
Ingredients
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 12 ounces premium white chocolate baking chips real chocolate - I use Ghiradelli baking chips
- 1 1/2 teaspoons canola oil divided
- 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract divided (to taste - this will depend how pepperminty you want your bark)
- 5 to 7 roughly chopped Oreos
- 6 regular sized crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Line baking sheet with parchment paper and have two microwave-safe bowls on stand-by.
- Melt semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until completely melted (15 to 30 second increments, stirring).
- Once melted, stir in 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract and canola oil (divided).
- Quickly pour melted chocolate onto baking pan and smooth layer with spatula.
- Place baking pan in the freezer for about 3 to 5 minutes (You don't want it to be completely set). Or place in refrigerator for about 8 minutes.
- Melt white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until completely melted (15 to 30 second increments, stirring).
- Once melted, stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract and canola oil.
- Next, pour melted white chocolate onto baking pan, and carefully smooth out layer.
- Sprinkle crushed candy canes and Oreo cookies on top of white chocolate.
- Refrigerate bark for about 30 minutes.
- Once completely set, remove chocolate from pan and discard parchment paper.
- Sprinkle any remaining crushed candy canes (and cookies if you would like) over layer of white chocolate.
- Break/cut into pieces. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Feel free to adjust your peppermint extract to your liking. Sometimes I like a hint, sometimes I like more.
- To crush candy canes, you can place candy canes in a plastic bag and crush them using a rolling pin or a canned good. If you have a food processor, that's another option.
- To enjoy Peppermint Bark for longer periods, store in the refrigerator.
Make sure bark is room temperature before serving.

Honestly, if there’s anything better than an Oreo-based dessert, it’s an Oreo-based dessert with a festive spin including candy canes. LOVE THESE!! They taste so nostalgic. Can’t not smile when biting into these sweet gems.
