Southern Baked Beans (with Ground Burger Made from Plants)

These Southern-Style Baked Beans are made from plants with a delicious whiskey maple BBQ sauce, ground burger made from plants, fresh onions, bell peppers, jalapeños, brown sugar and flavors that will be sure to make your summer BBQ, family reunion, or gathering a hit!

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz pack of Impossible Meat cooked, drained, seasoned
  • 28 oz can of vegetarian beans
  • 3/4 large green bell pepper diced
  • 3/4 large white onion chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 jalapeño diced, without seeds
  • 1/2 cup BBQ Sauce of choice I used Whiskey Maple BBQ Sauce
  • 4 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or 2 Tbsps of Truvia Brown Sugar Blend
  • 1/4 teaspoon all-purpose seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 pack Fakin' Bacon - Lightlife Smoky Tempeh Strips or regular cooked and cut into pieces (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large mixing bowl add BBQ sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, and mustard.
  • Next combine baked beans, bell peppers, jalapeño, onions, garlic, and lightly seasoned Impossible Beef (or plant-based beef), bacon pieces and mix well.
  • Transfer baked beans mixture into an 8x8 casserole, baking dish.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Bacon - Smoky Tempeh Bacon Strips - Optional. If you're feeling real southern, add 1/2 pack of Smoky Tempeh (Fakin' Bacon) pieces.
  • Feel free to use regular ground beef and bacon in place of vegetarian/vegan options.
  • Add an additional 140 Calories to the entire recipe if using Smoky Tempeh Bacon Strips. 
  • Feel free to swap out the brown sugar for Truvia Brown Sugar Blend.
