Do you have a love for all things plants, especially cacti? Varnish + Vine is a unique plant shopping experience that will have you counting down the days until you can add a new plant to your home or space.
If you love this post, check out my first plant shopping experience that I documented. Speaking of plants, if you love plant-based eats, check out a few of my favorite plant-forward recipes like this Apple Strawberry Cabbage Slaw with Candied Pecans as well as this Lemon Pepper Roasted Cauliflower recipe!
Varnish + Vine
Late last summer, I stopped by the Varnish + Vine Cactus Pop-Up Experience here in Birmingham. I may or may not have lost it. In a good way, of course! Botanica, the cutest plant shop, hosted V+V which is pretty much how I discovered them. You probably know by now that I was on a search for the perfect cactus for my home.
Thanks to Varnish + Vine, that became cacti! I found a Madagascar (Cactus) Palm at one of my previous visits to Botanica as well as a Pencil Cactus. You can read more about my experience here. BUT! There was this one cactus that stood so tall by the entrance, almost an 8-footer…and it was love at first sight! I wanted one…just like it!
Cactus Shopping
Varnish + Vine had so many different cacti to choose from. Not overwhelming, but I wanted them all! I had so much fun cactus shopping. There’s something about the entire experience that is so magical.
Choosing the right Varnish + Vine Cactus for your home.
A Christmas and Thanksgiving cactus is on my list for this year. I also want to add cacti outside the home. You can read about the 8 Best Cactus Varieties to Grow Indoors here. You will also find 132 Types of Cacti (A to Z) here.
I was excited to see so many familiar faces including my friend Jessica of Spiffy Eats & Giggle Water!
Flowering Cactus
If you didn’t know — cactus plants are flowering plants and they can BLOOM! I had no idea this was possible, and it was quite intriguing to see! Age and care play a major part in their blooming as well. I also didn’t know this, but some cacti don’t bloom until they are over 25 years old! Pretty cool, right?
The Big Reveal!
I still can’t believe it. You know what they say, go big or go home! Well, y‘all…this is the purchase of my very first cactus! THANK YOU, VARNISH + VINE! Can you believe it’s taller than me? I love her so much!
Over 5.5 feet of Peruvian Apple Cactus!
Below is how I incorporated my Varnish + Vine cactus into my holiday decor! This was actually my sweet hubby’s (HB) idea, and I loved it so much I decided to keep the lights on past the holidays. It brightens up our space in such a magical way! The cactus on the left is the Pencil Cactus that I purchased from Botanica as well.
Until next time… You can find me on Instagram, Facebook, PINTEREST, and TikTok.
