Since I found out about a plant-based burger called the “Impossible Burger”, I’ve been on the quest to find one OR a plant-based burger comparable in my city. The Impossible Burger is not like the traditional (Black) Bean (Veggie) Burger either. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good bean burger, but there are plenty of those to go around. Besides the Impossible Burger is like NONE other. PERIODDDD!
There is a restaurant that carries the Beyond Meat plant-based burger, but it’s no longer in Birmingham. BOO! I also, think there’s a difference in taste, but I’ll reserve my comments until I taste one from another restaurant. I did find a place in Atlanta called Slutty Vegan which does, in fact, serve the Impossible Burger in a variety of ways, so I am definitely planning a road trip soon just to try it and so I can get “Sluttified“.
Now I kept saying to myself…Birmingham REALLY needs a plant-based burger joint here, so hopefully we’ll get one soon. I did try another spot locally that serves the Beyond Burger and it was a FAIL. It reminded me of something that came out of the frozen section (definitely more on the bean burger side), and seemed like they did not put too much care or concern into its taste or presentation. Perhaps because their fare consists of Latin-inspired dishes.
DISCOVERING THE POSSIBILITIES
A few Sundays ago, HB said he wanted to go to Red Robin, and I wasn’t really sure if I was in the mood for a burger, so I was kind of hesitant. But when I tell you I’m so happy we did! And I got to use my Red Robin Loyalty: Birthday Perk for a FREE burger. I looked down on our table and noticed that they were advertising the “Impossible Burger”, so of course we were going back and forth on who was going to try it first. Well…he did! I ended up getting a regular burger, and it was absolutely delish, too, btw! I was taken aback at how good his burger looked.
After eyeing it from across the table, I finally took a bite. This Impossible Burger…LISTEN! It lives up to its name! I was thinking to myself, there’s no way this thing is plant-based! Ain’t NO WAY! I was looking around to see if I was being bamboozled. I REALLY was shocked at how juicy and delicious it was as well as how much it tasted like the burger (i.e., like I was enjoying the real thing). I also love that you can pretty much make any burger on the menu Impossible. I don’t know how or what they did to make it taste so amazing, but I had to go back the following day to pick up one on the way home. Even the takeout was yumtastic!
ON A MISSION
I’m on a mission to find the best plant-based burgers locally as well as while traveling. I think I may call this My Pretty Brown’s Plant-Based Burger Series. Be sure you check out your local Red Robin to try their NEW Impossible Burger. It will not disappoint! Also check out my previous post about why I’m having a Plant-Based 2019!
