It’s that time of year again! The Birmingham Greek Festival is here! It’s one of Birmingham’s oldest cultural food festivals and one of the most anticipated events in the southeast! It has also become a tradition for us to attend every year. It’s held at the Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. I love this event because it’s a great way to learn more about Greek culture and feast on some of the best Greek Food ever! You can enjoy live Greek music, dancing, food, pastries, church tours, gifts and much more! Admission and parking is FREE.
It’s such a fun time of year and we’ve been going since the HB introduced me to it back in 2011 (updated). Some friends will be in town so we will have an opportunity to share this festive event with them. Let me just say–the food is amazing, the Greek beverages, music, dancing (yes, I line dance too! OPA!) …everything is tons of fun! It’s always good to learn and share in other cultures outside of your own, so I’m looking forward to a great time!
Food Faves:
Greek Chicken, Pasticho (reminds me of lasagna), Souvlakia (lamb skewers), baklava (layers of buttered filo), loukoumathes (Greek fried donuts), and pites (filo triangles filled with feta or spinach mixture) are all I must to get while I’m there!
Here a are some pictures from past Greek Festivals: (Warning! Some of the photos will tell you how far we’ve come with smartphone and non-smartphone cameras! Lol!)
My “We’re Here!” face!
