Helloooo my friends!
This summer has been very refreshing in so many ways. I have been able to do a few things that I haven’t been able to do in a lonnnng time…such as cook, REST, go to the beach, and try out more restaurants here in Birmingham. Of course, you know how this foodie feels, I believe sharing is caring; and I want people to know that Birmingham is truly a gem when it comes to delicious eats!
I decided to round up a few of my favorites or new favorites that I have enjoyed thus far that are perfect for summer!
TACOS! TACOS! TACOS! – Tacos Dos Hermanos (Food Truck)
One of my favorite spots to grab food during summer is Tacos Dos Hermanos (taco truck). I don’t know what it is, but a hot day + taco truck just gives me life AND summertime vibes! They serve up some of the best, authentic Mexican street food that you will ever find. You haven’t had a taco until you’ve had these. Pick up some of their tacos and enjoy a picnic in the park! They will not disappoint!
Creole Shrimp & Grits – Babalu’s Tacos & Tapas
I shared about Babalu’s a few years ago. Just in case you forgot, you can check out that post here. The last time we visited, I ordered the Creole Shrimp & Grits…and oh boy — it was good! These shrimp & grits were a little different than what I consider “traditional” shrimp & grits. Mainly because of the herb-tastic creole sauce. Very tasty! Use your grilled, country bread for soppin’ (southern thing or maybe just me, lol), and you have yourself a winner!
Fried Corn on the Cob (AKA Saw’s Summer Corn) with White BBQ Sauce – Saw’s Soul Kitchen
One word: SUMMER! So excited that Saw’s Soul Kitchen decided to bring back the fried corn on the cob (with white BBQ sauce)! I kinda stalked their Insta to make sure they were going to bring it back. If you haven’t tried this summer favorite, you’ll need to add it to your foodie bucket list stat! You can also check out my earlier post raving about “corn that will change your life” along with other favorites like Saw’s Sweet Tea Fried Chicken Sandwich and Fried Okra! Yummer-Summer!

Housemade Braised Meatballs – Real & Rosemary
What I love about Real & Rosemary is that it has an organic feel with a bohemian vibe. Real foods with real ingredients without all of the fluff. A great place to relax and enjoy a home-cooked meal like our grandparents made when we were kids. It’s such a great addition to Birmingham, and we are so glad they are here!
I recently tried them for the first time. My plate consisted of Braised Meatballs with Charred Carrots with Thyme, and Zucchini with Avocado Pesto. You wouldn’t believe this, but I hate carrots (not quite sure why I ordered them). I am glad that I did though—and to be totally honest, they were actually pretty darn good! I’ve also been on a zoodle kick lately, so I’ve pretty much been eating them on the regular.
But let’s talk about these meatballs! They were house-made with mozzarella, basil, and herb tomato sauce perfection! Some of the best meatballs I’ve had in a while, and they taste just like they came from Mama’s kitchen! Not as good as my Mama’s, but pretty darn close!
Speaking of Real & Rosemary, they also have Fresh Spa Water available! I decided to try out the Lemon Rosemary water…because DUH, Real & ROSEMARY! It’s super refreshing, and perfect for a hot, summer day! Just know, you can make your own infused water at home (super easy), but of course if you are already dining there, why not grab a bottle…or two…or three!
Tell me your summer FOOD favorites here in Birmingham!
All food featured is locally owned with the exception of Babalu’s (still amazing). Eat and Support local!

I am such a huge fan of Mexican Food. Any time I find a place, especially a food true, I will frequent it over and over again.
