The Origin of Slutty Brownies – The Best Brownies Ever!
So I went down a rabbit hole because not only was I intrigued, but I seriously wanted to know the origin of these brownies also known as “Slutty Brownies”. After doing some research it started to make more sense. So basically and “allegedly” Kevin & Amanda originally posted a recipe with brownie mix, hot fudge, and Oreo cookies (baked together) calling them “Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie n’ Oreo Fudge Brownie Bar”. Whew…that’s a lot.
Then another blogger “allegedly” came along, added to that recipe, and changed the name up. It went viral before “going viral” was a thing. I honestly don’t even know if that blogger created Slutty Brownies because there is so much speculation around that.
…but WHOEVER YOU ARE…THANK YOU!
The Best Way To Describe Slutty Brownies
From the desk of the Urban Dictionary:
(N).- brownies that don’t know they’re loved so they share themselves with everyone.
(N).-brownie batter, cookie dough, and Oreos are all baked together to create an orgasmic sensation.
I used a Caramel Turtle Brownie mix for these brownies. Mouthwatering!
When did I start making Slutty Brownies?
Back in 2010-ish, Slutty Brownies were a viral sensation and I’ve been making them ever since. I shared them back in 2012-ish on this blog during my “Pretty Brown Naturals” era. If you have been around that long, you know. LOL! Not to mention, these brownies have been around my family for 10+ years and are a HIGHLY requested dessert every single year for the Magic City Classic as well as Iron Bowl. If you go to Pinterest or even do a simple Google search, you will find a plethora of recipes for these brownies out there. Here is my Winter Edition version of Slutty Brownies I made back in 2013!
JUST CALL IT A COMEBACK
When I first started blogging I was not blogging as much about food or food photography as I am now. Since I have updated photos for these slutty brownies and because I get a lot of requests for these, I figured it’s a great time to share the recipe again. I just want to reiterate, I did not create this recipe, and neither do I take credit for it. With a gazillion recipes out there, everyone makes theirs a little differently. However, I make mine how I make mine.
Yes, those are snowmen Oreos part of the Winter Edition Oreos!
INGREDIENTS I USE TO MAKE SLUTTY BROWNIES
Oreo cookies – These are absolutely necessary to make THE perfect Slutty Brownies. This is not the time to throw it back with Big Sixty Cookies from circa the 1990s.
Cookie dough – I use a regular-schmegular cookie dough out of the refrigerated section from the grocery store. I’ve used Tollhouse or Pillsbury dough for the past few years. You can make your cookie dough from scratch if that’s your thing; however, this is not that type of recipe. it’s an easy recipe, hence the name.
Brownie Mix – I love my brownies to be more on the gooey side, so when I’m in that mood, I get the sl*ttiest brownie mix I can find. I typically end up with Ghirardelli: Chocolate Supreme, Double Fudge, Triple Fudge, or Ultimate Chocolate. You can also use Betty Crocker, Annie’s, Duncan Hines, Pillsbury, or whatever brand you like. Next, you will follow the steps as you would if you were baking brownies (adding egg, oil, water, etc. – whatever your brand of brownie mix calls for).
Eggs – see your brownie mix instructions.
Vegetable oil – see your brownie mix instructions.
Water – may be optional for brownie mix depending on the brand (see your brownie mix instructions).
Tips and Tweaks
- Taking cookie dough out 15-20 minutes before preparing will help them flatten/smooth in your baking dish easier.
- You can use an 8×8 baking dish, but the 9×9 dish will help the Oreos nestle perfectly without having to break your cookie in half. If you have to break your cookie to make it fit, that’s totally fine. No Oreo left behind!
- I like to take my brownies out a little early (5 to 10 minutes) to give them a gooey consistency. Do the knife test and if a little chocolate smears, that’s fine. You just don’t want your brownies to be runny or wobbly. You want them done.
- If you want more solid brownies, you will have to bake them at the recommended time on your brownie mix or a little longer.
- If your mix does not have chocolate chips in it and you want them extra gooey, add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to your brownie batter before adding your third layer to the baking dish.
- These brownies are absolutely amazing served with a scoop of ice cream or a glass of cold milk. Oat milk counts too!
- If you would like to enjoy the brownies warm, heat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or reheat them in the air fryer for one minute or less.
- For Family Size 9×13 Slutty Brownies: make sure you get two boxes of brownie mix (unless instructions for family size are noted on the mix), two rolls of cookie dough, and a Family Pack of Oreos — basically doubling the recipe.
- They also have gluten-free Oreos now.

If the brownie mix I got is enough for a pan of 9×13 brownies, do I have to use 2 boxes?
My Pretty Brown Eats says
You can just use one box! Doubling the recipe is fine if you want super, oowey goowey brownies.
