I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun on a “school night”! The older you get, the more you appreciate the times when your parents made you go to bed early to prepare for the next day. In our adult world, it’s called “work”. My HB and I attended our first basketball game this season. We went to the UAB vs. LSU basketball game and it was so much fun! I had to rock my green in support of my UAB Blazers! Lord knows, we’re not giving up the fight! This photo with Blaze and I is proof that nothing can stop our shine! FREE UAB!
Look who I ran into on the way to our seats?! It’s Santa Babyyyy!
Here I am trying to sneak a pic of my HB cheering on the Blazers! Not quite sure if he was excited about the bottomless popcorn that was flowing or the fact that we were having so much fun on a “school night”. Who cares, it was Friday Eve! It was a fun “kinda” cheap date night with nachos, hot dogs, popcorn and team spirit!
Training Update!
Well, I did it! I completed my longest training run of 20 MILES on Saturday! Oh yes, I did! I did pretty well up until mile 15. I started to cramp quite a bit in my right calf. I knew I was properly hydrated and I did my best to fuel properly the week leading up to my run. Sometimes these things just happen. I took a pickle juice shot, hydrated, and stretched. When I got to mile 17 I started to feel really sluggish. My HB had to remind me that I had two GU gels in my hydration belt. I was so focused on finishing, I didn’t fuel when I needed to. Who does that? I will not be doing that on race day. Plus, there will be adequate water/fuel stations throughout the course. Shortly after fueling, I started to feel much better and I pushed through the last 3 miles. I was happy to Rep my UAB Blazers on my long run as a reminder that victory is on the horizon! Now that those miles are done…it’s taper time! Marathon training is a true commitment and I know that I will see the fruits of my labor in a few weeks. Countdown to Disney!
I tested out my Injinji RUN 2.0 Original Weight Mini-Crew socks on my long run and I really liked them. I own two pair of casual wear toe socks, but I’ve never worn them to workout or run in. You seriously can’t tell that you are wearing toe socks when you’re moving. They also help prevent blisters. Here are the benefits of toe socks:
Benefits of Toe Socks via Injinji
Many people wonder why toe socks are better than the traditional sock design. The answer is surprisingly simple. We created a sock anatomically designed to your foot, and the five-toe sleeve design allows your toes to splay naturally and align properly, enabling greater stability and more comfort.
Sunday morning as I got ready for church I was so excited! I was not crazy-sore like I thought I would be after my 20-miles. I had a good ice-therapy, then a deep calf massage that really helped loosen things up. I knew I wasn’t going to rock anything, but flats!
After church, we headed over to a local breakfast spot called, Big Bad Breakfast! It was one of the yummiest breakfast meals I’ve had in a while. I was really torn between the Creola (crawfish skillet) and the Creole (crawfish omelet), so I ended up ordering the Buttermilk Shortstack with a side of grits (country girl) and scrambled eggs with cheese–and can’t forget their signature bacon. Omg…so good! I’m happy with my decision. I wish I could have tried them all, but then I wouldn’t have a need to go back. Find out more about BBB here and check out their menu here!
Don’t you just love finding new restaurants? What’s your favorite breakfast spot?
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas week!
