Can we discuss corn for a minute? I know, it’s super random. But it’s so necessary! Let me tell you…this is not your ordinary corn. This is fried corn on the cob straight from Saw’s Soul Kitchen in Avondale (Birmingham, AL)! The day I saw this deliciousness float through my timeline, I knew I had to make my way to Saw’s STAT! It was a Super Soul Sunday with friends. We were at least 10 deep at our table, but it didn’t matter; because I was going to taste this corn even if I had to stand with plate in hand.
I was so happy that the fried corn was still on the menu (i.e., not sold out). Just so you know, this place stays packed because the food is just that good! It was hot as you know what that day…and I didn’t care! As I waited for my meal to arrive to my table, I sat cramped on a picnic bench like it was lunchtime at Point Mallard during a church summer trip circa 1987.

Saw’s fried corn on the cob is topped with BBQ butter and white sauce! My Word! I really don’t know how to describe it other than AH-MAZING! The fried whole okra is pretty awesome, too! And the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken Sandwich is one of my favorites! Annnnnd….the smoked wings, of course! OK…everything is good! Not even kidding. Didn’t I tell you that Birmingham is a Food Mecca? I tell no lies.
Some things are just too good to keep to yourself, so I had to share! Oh, how I wish this would be a staple year round. Avondale is a place for premiere entertainment in our city with lots to do. Whatever you do…make sure you stop by Saw’s Soul Kitchen to get a taste of Soul in Birmingham!
Have you ever had fried corn on the cob? I bet it didn’t taste like this!
