As short-lived as it was, I was excited to be part of the #RockNBlog team this year. I truly did my best to make the most of the year even after the cards I was dealt. This race weekend was different from any other race weekend. I got injured earlier in the year, and the only race left for me to try to walk (or crawl) was Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas #StripAtNight. I really didn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want to psyche myself out. It was also the first race that I participated in since my new normal went into effect. I think the latter was the hardest for me. However, I always wanted to go to Vegas, so I knew I needed to make it happen. Even if I had to crawl.
Ummm…can you say Welcome to Vegas? LOL! OK…seriously, this is one of the first things I saw as soon as we left the hotel to head to the Expo. My HB actually took this picture (for those who were wondering), and I think it is the perfect illustration of what was to come.
THE EXPO
Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas had a three-day Health & Fitness Expo which was free and open to the public. This is pretty much where you go broke knocking things off of your wishlist: fitness merch, new shoes, gadgets and etc. You also can get health and nutrition information and items to help you prepare for race day.
10K Perks
- A course tour of the Las Vegas Strip

- Tech shirt for participating
- Spinning + Glowing Finisher Medal
- Runner Perks wristband for race weekend offers

Half Marathon Perks
The half marathon basically shut down the Las Vegas Strip. Miles 11 of the 13.1 miles run on Las Vegas Blvd…it’s seriously like you are at a rock concert. The same for the last miles or so for the 10K (that I can remember. It’s Vegas…so much was going on). Truly the most epic tour of the Las Vegas Strip…for reals!
- Pre-Race Concert featuring Snoop Dog
- Course on the Las Vegas Strip
- Live course entertainment
- Tech shirt for participating
- Finisher medal (larger version of the 10K)
- Runner Perks wristband for Race Weekend Offers
- Complimentary Post Race Michelob ULTRA…and more!
Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas – #STRIPATNIGHT
I can’t even lie. #StripAtNight is probably one of my top five races to date. I love the fact that the 10K, half, and full marathon were all going on (pretty much) at the same time. I probably will only do half marathon distance or less due with Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series to my fiasco at Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah as I was trying to qualify for Marathon Maniacs (Mission Accomplished). One regret that I do have is not running/walking the 5K the night before. The medal was pretty dang sweet—and it glowed in the dark, too!
Oh, and if you’re looking for details about negative splits, pace, and if I almost BQ’d (NOT even close)…this ain’t that kind of post. I’ve never been that type of runner/race walker. If you know me then you know I do this because I like to have fun. Annnnnd (of course) because it has health benefits, right?
The 10K was fun (pain and all), and the course entertainment was pretty stellar. It was a super flat course, too. Being that I ended up having to bow down gracefully from the half to the 10K (due to injury) I missed the pre-race concert with…Snoop Diggity Dog. Womp! I heard it was LIT and I’m low-key salty that I had to miss it. I hope they can make it so that everyone can be present and accounted for at the pre-race concert. Maybe next year?
There was so much to see…and you TRULY run (or walk) The Strip! There was never a dull moment…I mean, what can I say? It’s Vegas! So I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.
Elvis sightings!
You can also have a RUN THRU WEDDING:
Couples can tie the knot or renew their vows in front of thousands of runners/witnesses! This is the ultimate chance to proclaim your love in an unforgettable , “only in Vegas” experience! The five-minute group ceremony will take place at The Park on Las Vegas Blvd, making it easy for your friends and families to watch, whether they are running or not!
Now, how cool is that?
Bride and Grooms-to-Be!
And more Bride and Grooms-to-Be!
Heyyyy…Boyz II Men!
IT’S A WRAP!
I will definitely be returning to run the #StripAtNight! I hope to see you on the pavement sometime in 2017!
