I’m sure you have heard 2 Chainz’s Pretty Girls Like Trap Music album by now. If you haven’t listened to it, you probably saw its bright, pink cover (or heard about it). The first song I heard off of his album was “It’s A Vibe” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz, and Jhene Aiko. I knew I had to add this song to my running playlist for obvious reasons (those who know me know why), and because I love trap music!
I know some runners listen to a certain type of music while running. I know I do! The only music I don’t listen to while running or working out is gospel. Cool down or an early morning stroll? Maybe. Someone may be side-eying me right now, but this is my truth! You would have to pull me off the pavement, because I would be what the old folk used to say, “caught up in the spirit”. I have always loved all genres of music, but when it comes to running, my Ratchettt Run OR Trap Music Run playlist is the move.
According to Urban Dictionary.Com:
Trap music is based on use of the 808 Roland drum machine, pitched and re-sampled hiphop/rap vocals, pipe flutes, gangsta synth leads, and various FX. Similar to rap without the main vocal, Trap music has been gaining lots of attention from major DJ’s and labels. Although, the style originated many years ago, Trap music has recently been making a new school comeback in many new forms such as “Trap”, “Chirp”, “SeaPunk”, “PsyTrap”, and “TrapStep”. Earliest known examples can be found by artists such as…UGK, Swisha House, and Gucci Mane. Tempos range widely from 135-175bpm which is uncommon for most major genres of electronic dance music (EDM).
I have always been a big fan of artists like Juicy J, Gangsta Boo, Big K.R.I.T. and Doe B (RIP) just to name a few. Although some may debate which artists fall under Trap Music, there are many artists on my list. The beats and flows keep my energy level up, especially while I’m putting in long-milers
“It’s a Vibe.” Feel me? *New York accent*
This playlist is for my runners or walkers who like trap-style, trap-meditation, and upbeat tempos. Here is my Spotify playlist. You can always create your own clean playlist—but as for mine, Disclaimer: Parental Advisory. Enjoy!
What kind of music do you listen to while running?
Kashia says
I am the same way. I also like dancehall reggae music when running. I use to feel guilty sometimes about listening to trap music, but I’ve learned to stop being ashamed of who I really am and what I enjoy. Now I even share what I’m listening to in the gym in my insta stories or snapchat. It’s a vibe is one of my favorites. I love Ty Dolla.
