So let’s talk about how these cute shooters came to be. For Valentine’s Day, we really hadn’t planned on making a dessert. Of course, I couldn’t resist, so I ended up making this Cherry Strawberry Dump Cake on a whim. Before I knew it, HB (also known as Pepper + Graze) was sitting at the island mixing pudding to make a dessert. Then he asked if I wanted to join him. So I did.
Fun and festive!
These shooters are colorful, festive, and have so many fun elements like textures and flavors when you want to enjoy something deliciously sweet! We went with pink and chocolate with a dark chocolate espresso sauce which was absolutely perfect. These dessert shooters are not only reserved for holidays, but they are perfect for spring, Easter, Valentine’s Day, and even celebrations!
What You Need To Make Pink Vanilla Chocolate Dessert Shooters
- Vanilla Pudding Mix: We keep pudding mix in the pantry although we don’t eat it often. I love it because you can use it to whip up dips or when you want to enjoy a treat. You can use Vanilla or French Vanilla flavored pudding in this recipe.
- Pink food coloring gel: This edible coloring is how you create the perfect shade of pink. If you can’t find pink food coloring, you can also use red.
- Dark Chocolate Espresso Sauce: I had this sauce on hand and it’s one of my favorites. It’s by Jordan’s Skinny Sauces. I love it not because it’s “skinny” but because it tastes good. You can opt for a more traditional syrup like a Dark Chocolate sauce like this one. But I do really love the espresso flavor added. If you have a sauce that you love, use it!
- Whipped Topping: This is like the icing on the “shooter” before you add your cookie or granola bar crumbles. Make sure you give the can a few shakes, then fill the shooter glass with whipped topping.
- Cookie or Granola Bar: You can use any cookie crumbles you like, for example, Oreo cookies or your favorite granola bar (like a Kind bar). I must admit, Oreo cookies are my go-to along with pecan pieces.
How these Dessert Shooters Come Together
Follow the pudding directions on the box and divide into two separate mixing bowls. Add pink food coloring to one bowl until you get the desired shade of pink then, set aside. Add dark chocolate espresso sauce to the other mixing bowl until you get the desired shade of espresso brown. Get two piping bags (or storage bags and add a slit to allow the mixture to fill shooter glasses). Fill each bag with the pudding mixture. Layer the colors how you like into each shooter glass, add cookie pieces (granola bar, chocolate chips, etc. )then BOOM!
Make It A Cold Treat
If you want to enjoy a creamy ice cream consistency, throw your shooters into the freezer for about 1 to 2 hours. These will also make a great sweet treat on a warm, spring or summer day!
