If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you know how much I love the city of New Orleans. You also probably know that I have fallen in love with a new brunch spot in town called Ruby Sunshine! Ruby Sunshine is an all-day brunch concept born out of New Orleans! My love for NOLA runs DEEP, so you know I was excited when I found out a new location was coming to Homewood (a suburb in Birmingham, AL AKA The Magic City). Ruby Sunshine opened the summer of 2019 so, just know, I promise not to wait this long to share the deEATS! I have visited quite a few times since the opening including a few hosted events which I will share about in another post! But let’s get to it…
HB and I visited Ruby Sunshine for the soft opening and the Grand Opening celebration! We had so much fun: live music, goodies, and all the NOLA feels! It’s always hard to decide what to order when EVERYTHING is good! But you know Mimosas are a great start!
Ruby Mimosa – Isn’t she pretty!
HB decided to try out Ruby Sunshine’s Award-Winning Bloody Mary! Let me not forget to mention that the Bloody Mary has bacon-infused vodka + tequila! Swoon! I’m not even a Bloody Mary fan, but listen — it was yummy!
Award-Winning Bloody Mary with a housemade mix!
Our first few visits were during the summer, so they also had Crab Bennies on special! This was my FIRST time having Eggs Benedict — and let me just say…they were incredibly good! I still can’t believe I loved them as much as I did. It’s funny because when I was younger, you couldn’t pay me to eat egg bennies. Now…I’m a SUPER fan!
Louisiana Blue Crab Cake Benedict was the summer special! It was a grilled crab cake served on a bed of spinach + fried green tomatoes, poached eggs and topped with a house-made hollandaise. I hope this will return this spring or summer! *crossing fingers*
THE TRIFECTA
Egg Bennies HEAVEN! I love The Trifecta: Shrimp Boogaloo, Eggs Cochon, and Chicken St. Charles. Also pictured is the Hello Sunshine Margarita which was created to celebrate the grand opening!
A closer look at one of my favorites, the Chicken St. Charles (pictured: part of the Trifecta trio). A big ol’ buttermilk biscuit topped with a poached egg and pork tasso cream sauce! SA-LI-VATE! You know this dish is good if you got me to eat poached eggs!
BBQ Shrimp & Grits – “A southern favorite with a New Orleans Twist” — Gulf shrimp with a beer + rosemary butter reduction over stone ground grits…and a big ol’ buttermilk biscuit! Honestly, truly…everything I didn’t know I needed.
Bacon Praline Pancakes — Listen! The warm brown sugar on top + butter caramel sauce…oh my word!
The Spanish (Chorizo) Omelet is filled with pepperjack cheese, onions, cilantro, tomato, and topped with a roasted red pepper coulis. The flavors are exquisite!
BRUNCH SO HARD — THE OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION!
“Goin’ up on Tuesday”! We had so much fun at the Grand Opening celebration! HB ordered The Southern Breakfast and it was slammin’! The Southern Breakfast comes with two eggs any style, stone ground grits, applewood-smoked bacon, buttermilk biscuit, and a fried green tomato!
I ended up getting The Peacemaker — a mix and match of two Egg Bennies. I chose the Eggs Cochon + Shrimp Boogaloo Benedict (y’all…there is a fried green tomato under there)!
Well…that’s it for now! I think I shared enough to get you making plans for a weekend visit! Just sayin’. Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing more of my favorites in upcoming posts.
