So y’all! I completed my first Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day! It was Montgomery, Alabama’s Inaugural Run Turkey Run hosted by Fleet Feet Montgomery, and I’m so excited that I was part of it! The course was all flat and perfect for anyone who wanted to get some miles in before indulging in their Thanksgiving favorites or for anyone who wanted to continue the Turkey Day tradition. Actually, my cousins plan on joining me next year so we can all do it as a family!
Yes, I still wear red lipstick and blush for races. lol!

The Turkey Trot was so much fun! I always wanted to do one, but it never happened until…well, this year. I also hadn’t been as active as I’ve wanted to, so I wasn’t sure if I could do it. When I was training for distance races (half and full marathons), a 5K is something I could do in my sleep. I didn’t even have to “train” for it (i.e., I just showed up). But when you’ve taken an extended period off, getting back out there is like starting all over again. COMPLETELY over! To be honest, I hadn’t done a race since the Peachtree Road Race. I knew that I was pretty much going to walk the entire distance, but I did get a run/walk in the last half. As always, there was no time goal, just to FINISH.
Saw this kitty when we were on our last mile. I told HB it was Mom watching after her baby along the course (as she often did by calling me to check on my during my races). Maybe it wasn’t her, but it was comforting to see this sweet kitty there as a reminder.
I’m so happy that my Honey (HB) and my baby sis, Chels, joined me! Even though there was a little resistance (*ahem* HB, lol) due to it being EARLY morning of Turkey Day, they were both so glad they joined me! It was my sister’s first 5K EVER, and she was so excited! She even finished in a great time! I’m so proud of her!
ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER
I met a sweet mother and daughter. The mother was/is 72-years-young, and she wanted to check a 5K off of her bucket-list! And guess what?! SHE did it!

This Turkey Trot was a reminder that no matter how many times you have to start over, it is NEVER too late to start again—and for that I am GRATEFUL!
5K’s MATTER! Maybe I need to put that on a tee-shirt!
