Sometimes you have to make things happen. I mentioned in an earlier post how much I really missed taking classes. I took them faithfully for almost three years until I started marathon training and switched gyms. BODYPUMP is an organized class, perfect for those looking to get lean, toned, and fit. Being a distance runner, I know strength training is very important. Years ago if you would have asked a runner what their daily workout routine looked like, they probably would have said “running”. I think strength training, especially for runners, has gained momentum over the past few years and rightfully so. BODYPUMP uses light to moderate weights and repetition to give you a full-body, kick-bum workout.
My current gym does not offer it and my favorite instructor is no longer teaching at my old gym. I needed to figure something out without me having to drive too far out of the way. It was the one thing that helped me when I first started running. I felt stronger. It was something about “Sweet Child O’ Mine” playing while doing chest exercises that just made me feel like a complete ROCK STAR!
This past weekend I told my HB that I wanted to price equipment, so we did. We went by one store and their equipment looked a little sketchy, so I decided to go by Academy Sports & Outdoors. I found exactly what I needed: bar and weight plates. I also decided to purchase The Step Studio Platform from Amazon to assist with my workouts.

When I workout at a gym they offered body pump and loved it. I think that is where my love of the iron came from actually.
I workout at home now and have added weight plates little by little. I am in search for 2 50lb plates now just not ready to pay the $$ yet!
Good job getting what you need to get it done. Yup I use my step bench for a bench also.

I have attended Body Pump classes at a local gym and had one instructor that was awesome… and 2 others that were not. For me, it’s totally about the energy coming from the instructor. I will give the online a try… didn’t know that it was offered! YAY!

Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I have a friend who recently went through training to become a Body Pump instructor. I really want to take one of her classes!
Janice @ Fitness Cheerleader says
I seriously LOVE bodypump!! I’ve been going to a Wednesday lunch class at the gym near my house off and on now for 7 years. Being able to do it at home would be awesome, I should really look into pricing out a bar and plates.
Artney says
I went to Academy and the bar and weights weren’t expensive at all. I’m planning to go back to get a few more weight plates, so I won’t have to debar every time. I love the class On Demand. You really feel like you’re at an official Les Mills class! Let me know how you like it if you try it out.

I just started going to the gym and all of the weight equipment is so intimidating! I will check out the online body pump. I have been using daily burn.
Artney says
Jane, it can be very intimating! That’s one reason why I loved taking Body Pump because it was a group of with people in there just like me. I think you will like Body Pump online. You feel like you are in a live Les Mills Body Pump class. I’ve heard of Daily Burn, too!
Safari @ Tri-ing To Run Boston says
I have such a love/HATE relationship with strength training! I know it makes me a stronger runner but it’s not as tangible as running…so I often forget. This post definitely makes me want to start Body Pump back up…smh…and stick with it once and for all. smh
Artney says
I totally understand. I believe once you get into a routine, you will start to like it. At least that’s what I’m hoping for now that I’m starting over!
Kashia says
I never heard of it. I want to start taking more classes at my gym next year. It will be good to do different workouts instead of the same routine. Also, it will be a good opportunity to meet potential clients for my business.

I love Body Pump! If you already have weights or don’t mind investing in some, you can do it at home OnDemand. I love the live class though—especially if you have a great teacher.
