I made kale chips last week and they were so good! I’ve had them before from my local health food store, but I definitely think making them fresh is the way to go. Most people ask, what do they taste like? They are basically crispy, kale leaves. They give you crunch and make the perfect, finger food snack—or served with your favorite sandwich. Kale chips are also a healthy alternative to potato chips. If you’re anything like me, I don’t need a bag of Lay’s potato chips in front of me. Which is also why I made these Baked Parsnip Chips (recipe here). I’d have to pray for restraint—which is why I don’t keep potato chips in our house. Just being honest. There are also fun ways to change up the flavor of kale chips. I added my twist by sprinkling jalapeño cheddar popcorn seasoning on them. Trust me it just works!
JALAPEÑO CHEDDAR KALE CHIPS
- 1 bunch of kale
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Seasoning salt
- Popcorn seasoning – jalapeño cheddar
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove kale leaves from the rib. Wash and thoroughly dry your kale (I used a salad spinner). Tear into one-inch pieces. You can make them smaller if you wish. Place kale leaves in a large mixing bowl and toss with olive oil and seasoning salt.
- Place kale leaves on lined, baking sheet then place in the oven. Let kale leaves bake approximately 15-20 minutes, turning them halfway through. Keep a watch out because each oven varies.
- Serve and enjoy!
Football season is right around the corner. These kale chips will be a great, healthy addition to your game-day snacks!

I love kale chips and the spin you put on them in awesome!! Way to get creative with something that could otherwise be bland!

Yes!!! I don’t care for raw kale unless it is in my smoothies. The only way I will eat it other than chips is in stir fry (sauteed).

My boys and I love Kale Chips, but never thought of using other seasonings. Will have to give these a try and I am now thinking of all the other varieties I can try.

You will always be able to create a new “flavor” because there are so many tasty seasonings out there!

Awful but I’ve never tried kale. These looks so good. I’ve heard so much about kale chips, I think it’s time I give them a try!
My Pretty Brown Blog says
Don’t feel bad. I only sauteed kale before deciding to try the chips. Eating it raw was too punchy for my taste buds—so I decided to make chips! You will love them!

Ohh…yum! I have to be honest in saying I’ve never actually tried kale chips. I want to though. I think your version sounds very tasty!

They are very tasty and you will love them! Only thing, they go so fast because they are so yummy!

I have been wanting to do my own Kale chips. I will have to try these. I definitely see where jalapeno cheddar popcorn seasoning would work with this. I am always looking for different things to make for football Sundays too so I will have to see how these go over with our crowd.

I am just going to have to do it! I’ve heard nothing but Kale Chips… I pinned this but might have to leave out that jalepeno part.
My Pretty Brown Blog says
The jalapeno flavoring is not spicy at all. It just gives it flavor. However, if you don’t like it, you can substitute it for any flavoring that you like! :)

What a brilliant idea to use popcorn seasoning to flavor the kale chips. I have some in my pantry!
My Pretty Brown Blog says
It’s good to know we can use our popcorn seasoning with foods other than popcorn! ;-)

Eeek! Kale!? I don’t know if I can do it, but I do have some kale in the freezer. I should give it a try.
My Pretty Brown Blog says
I’m not sure how it would taste out of the freezer. If you buy a small bunch then you can sample it. If you like it then you can buy more if not, trash it! lol

This recipe seems really easy to do. I like the idea of using popcorn seasoning to change the flavor or the chips.
