SO…I did a thing! I am officially part of the Peloton family! For over a year, I had my eye on the Peloton bike after two of my friends shared about it. Being in a rut (totally understandable) for almost three years with no consistent exercise plan, then an injury that set me back three months, I was desperate to get motivated no matter what it took. People deal with grief and adjusting to the “new normal” differently. For me, I stopped exercising cold turkey after my Mom unexpectedly passed away. Grief wiped every desire for my body to move although it was in my heart (I can’t explain it). I tried countless times to get back to running and adding more half/full marathons to my list, as well as a consistent workout routine like I did before my life changed. I prayed fervently and asked God for guidance — and here we are! I made the decision that I was going to invest in myself. Sometimes you have to do something crazy, daring, and step outside of your comfort zone. You have no idea how excited I am about my Peloton journey!
A little bit about PELOTON:
Founded in 2012, Peloton brought top talent together in its Silicon Alley headquarters to create a new concept in fitness. We loved cycling but had a hard time finding a workout that consistently fit our schedules, and our at-home workouts never felt quite up to par. So, we set out to create a world-class indoor cycling studio experience on your time, and in the comfort of your own home.
The Peloton Community has been absolutely amazing and so encouraging since the first day I shared about it. What’s even better is there are thousands of classes that I can take that range from cycling, yoga, running (indoor and outdoor), cardio and more! I can send classes to my calendar (Google, Outlook, etc.) as a reminder, and even take live classes! It feels like you are at your local health club for realsss! It’s so much fun! I heard many riders talk about a few of the instructors, so I knew whose classes I wanted to take first.
MY FIRST RIDE
I was so PUMPED for my first ride! My first class was with Ally Love this past Saturday. Being that I hadn’t stepped foot in an indoor cycling class in over three years, I decided to start with a 20-minute beginners ride. It felt so good to sweat, “almost” cry lol, call on Jesus…and I even fought the air a few times trying to figure out clipping in and out (dang cleats, lol) — BUT the encouragement from my instructor made my ride so much fun! I rode to a mix of Hip Hop, R&B, and Country. I’m not gonna even lie…I was sore after my first ride, but it was all worth it!
SECOND RIDE, FIRST MONDAY IN FOREVER
We all know that most people dread Monday, but it’s all about perspective. I found the hashtag #nevermissamonday on IG and I love it, because it’s a reminder how Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week. Well, I did that! I had my second ride this morning with Cody! ON A MONDAY, Y’ALL! It was 20 minutes and he even busted out some Tina Turner! LOVED it!
I’m so excited about my upcoming rides, especially my Hip-Hop ride with Alex Toussaint and Pop ride Robin Arzon—both I’ve heard great things about.
2018 said, ‘You ain’t seen nothing yet.’ 2019 said…’Hold my protein shake!’
You have to admit, that is hilarious! Yes, I made that up.
I heard it can get pretty competitive out in these Peloton streets, so know that I am my own competition. Plus, you know your girl has to work her way back and be better and stronger than she was before. Being on a two-year, eight month hiatus from a consistent exercise regimen is like starting from scratch — but SHE BACK!
