After a hot weekend and Memorial Day in the park, my hair started to get frustrated with me. The heat in the South is almost unbearable! I decided to co-wash my hair before going to Jazz in the Park and twisted it into bantu knots to let it air dry. The heat was still too much! I did twist outs, wash-n-go’s, and rocked my fro all week, but I knew my hair still needed more protection. I got that ”hair itch” and wanted to try something new with my hair. I was going to do two-strand twists, but I decided to try out the Marley braiding hair with no idea what I was going to do next! I got home and decided that it was WAY too much hair to be trying to twist! I wanted something quick and easy. I decided to do the “tree braid” method and…Voilà!!! I was happy with my results and what I love about the hair is that it looks so natural! I love the diversity of styles that I can wear as well. There are a few pics below to see different styles. I’m so excited about other protective styles I have in mind to prepare for this HOT Summer! It’s times like these that make me LOVE being natural even more! There is no excuse to be and stay FABULOUS!
Blog you later my PBN’s!

I love this style! It looks really nice. So you just did the traditional cornrow tree braids straight back then you just styled it and pinned it up? I need to try this soon.
naturalkeke says
Oh and how many packs of hair did you use?
Art Bella says
Thank you so much! They are cornrows and I used the crochet method (using the hook). You can create so many styles, just get both types of hair pins. I know it will be pretty! Can’t wait for you to try it!

Thanks, When I do try it I will of course show you results.

Beautiful! Until I read the article, I thought that was your hair. I’ve seen the Marley hair and love it but had no idea of how to wear it, thanks for the inspiration.

You’re very welcome! I actually discovered this style by accident. I’ve seen other ways to wear them, but this is definitely one that I like! You can also pull the hair apart and wear it shorter for more manageable hair. Kind of like singer, Leela James’, blown out hair! Good luck with it, I’d love to see yours when you get it done! Thx for reading!

Really cute hairstyle!! how many packs did you use? and how did you maintain it? and keep it from tangling
Art Bella says
Hi Charmaine!
Thank you! I used 2 1/2 packs of Marley braid hair. This style like most braids, twists, locs…is probably one of the easiest to maintain. I pulled it in a pony at night and sometimes I just wore it loose. That’s pretty much it. Get up and go!

I was actually thinking of putting in marley twists this weekend (attempting it myself)… but this is sooo pretty.were you able to wear it up in a high bun or ponytail? I am used to sewing in my own weaves but have never used the crochet method, what braide pattern do you use for your cornrows? also dose this method shed alot once the hair is in place? Any and all advice is welcomed before i take the plunge lol :)

I actually didn’t really put this style up in a bun, but you can totally do it! I saw another girl try this same method and it was super cute in her high ponytail!
I braided my hair staright to the back. Real simple. You actually don’t need many braids. I think I had about 8-10 rows.
The hair does not shed at all. This Marley hair is totally different than other hairs I’ve tried.
My advice is…just try whatever comes to mind! That’s how I came up with my most “famous” updos. I don’t know how I did them…they just worked. I just tried something new! I’d love to see your results. I’m on Twitter if you’re on there. Feel free to send me a pic when you’re done or you can email it to me!

Did you find that the Marley braids was course? How’d you compensate for that? What products did you use in your hair to maintain your styles whilst keeping down the frizz?
Art Bella says
I kept a spray bottle with conditioner and oil (olive, coconut, jojoba etc) to spritz my hair daily. Moisturizing hair before installation keeps down on frizz. I had very minimal frizz, if any.
