Being the daughter of a first grade teacher, we always had the cutest seasonal/holiday decor around our home. My Mom was so creative and she loved to decorate. Fall flowers, pumpkins, wreaths, candy canes, whatever she could find. And yes, it was done tastefully. I always admired her gift when it came to decorating. I’m pretty good at it too, but not like her. The past few years I didn’t decorate much. It was always a reminder that she wasn’t here, and it made me sad all over again.
A few weekends ago, I was inspired! I decided I would head to The Home Depot (and Lowe’s) pick up a few things. I went a little overboard, but not too overboard. Flowers, pumpkins, and several other items. It felt good! HB was even excited! Maybe it was the shock factor because when it comes to plants/flowers, that’s REALLY his thing!
I saw mums around our home growing up, but I had no clue what they were called. Pretty sure my Mom called them by name, I just wasn’t “into” the whole plant/gardening thing then. Amazing how decades later, I’ve become my Mum/Mom.
[pullquote width=”300″ float=”center”]All mums originated from the same “parent” flower, a golden-yellow daisy-like chrysanthemum from China. Over the years, due to hybridization of many species from China and Japan, there have emerged two categorical types of mums that serve different purposes.[/pullquote]
Do you need a quick lesson on mums? OK, it’s not a real course, but you can learn about them from Mums 101 here.
