Every now and then I write an IG post that I feel needs to be made into a blog post for encouragement. I know a lot of people who followed my journey over the years wondered why I stopped posting about running (or stopped running period). I went from becoming a Marathon Maniac, running Disney races, to NOTHING. After the unexpected passing of my Mom, I stopped running cold turkey. I didn’t have the desire OR the will to even walk. It zapped every ounce of energy and motivation out of me. A little over 2 years ago was the last time I posted a post-run or workout pic. For 2 years my love for running was always there, but I just couldn’t get my body to line up with what was in my heart.
I debated sharing this cheesy photo, but I’m so proud of this girl right here…
Yesterday I made a decision. I was tired of sadness and grief, lack of daylight, heat—and everything else trying to hold me back. Yesterday was my first official day back doing what I love! I even got 3.01 miles in on the dreadmill. 😩 Lol! Whatever it takes, right? Brooke Salter shared with me these words, “3 miles on the dreadmill = a half marathon on the street!” ALL FACTS! lol! That needs to go on T-shirt! But seriously, I’m so proud of myself! Not to mention Peachtree (#AJCPRR) is 2 weeks away! Yikes lol! But if I can make it through 26.2 miles, I know I can make it through this! I can honestly say…it feels SO GOOD to be back!
I’m using the Couch to 5K app for motivation, and I’m quite all right with that! I’ll also be adding more training miles. I wrote a post back in November about how I am a marathoner starting from the couch. Hopefully it will serve as motivation for someone else having a hard time getting out there. My first run/walk back was not as hard as I thought it would be. I’m so excited to be back!
HOW DO YOU START RUNNING (OR WALKING)?
Just do it! I know it sounds so simple, but Nike was on to something when they started that slogan. Just one foot in front of the other. Dassit! Don’t worry about time or distance. Start with small goals then once you tackle those, aim for BIG GOALS. Even the ones that you don’t think are attainable. Because guess what? They ARE attainable! Anything is possible to those who BELIEVE! One of my mantras is…”I can achieve my impossibles”. So YES…you CAN do it!
The Couch to 5K app/program is a great place to start. It will send you on your way to catching the running bug. Yes, it’s a real thing.
There was a quote in my “There is More” 5-Day Reading Plan by Brian Houston of Hillsong Church that stuck out to me:
I dare you to dream big, scary, and outrageous dreams. The kind that would make other people laugh if only they knew. —Brian Houston
So why not give it a try! And when you start…keep going!
