I’m back! I’m still on a high from my trip to Cali and the Disneyland Half Marathon 10th Anniversary Weekend! I can’t wait to share my recaps and photos from the awesome trip. There’s something truly magical about Disney. I’m really sad that my vacation is over and I miss my family and my running friends. The only thing that keeps me from sinking into post-Disney/LA blues is planning our next trip. Well…
Dumbo got me thinking.
We all know who Dumbo is. He had big floppy ears and there were people who made him very aware of his “imperfections”. They said hurtful things about him which only made matters worse. On top of that, his Mom tried to protect him from those mean people and ended up getting locked up. I’m sure that brought about a lot of emotions for Dumbo. Life situations can catch us at our weakest moments and we, too, can feel just how Dumbo felt. I’m sure we all have moments where we think about (and sometimes dwell on) our imperfections. We will start thinking about what is “wrong” instead of what is totally right. ONLY if we allow it. Whether it be a fitness or weight loss goal, career, whatever…we cannot allow our thoughts or words to make us lose focus or devalue our progress. *Preachin’ to myself here* I have come to realize that some things take time, take longer than expected, or don’t go according to OUR plan–but there is still hope!
“Find your tribe. Love them hard.”
We need Timothys to help reel us back in. I love the quote, “Surround yourself with people who believe in you.” We need people in our lives to see our potential even when we can’t see it for ourselves. Timothy helped Dumbo realize how unique and spectacular he was…BIG floppy ears and all! He didn’t need a magic feather — he had a gift — a gift that Dumbo would go on and share with the world!
So, thank you Dumbo for being amazing and showing us that it is okay to have imperfections, that we can reach our goals, and that our gifts will make room for us! [Prov. 18:16]
I will not just fly, I will SOAR!
