The cutest thing ever is to hear my nephew say “wa-wa” when he wants water. It amazes me how much he loves it. When he says “wa-wa”, it reminds me to drink my water. I wish I loved it as much as he does. I don’t hate water, but when other options are in front of me, water will usually be my second choice.
I know there are TONS of benefits to drinking water like…
- It energizes us!
- Healthy skin. You may even walk around looking like a Gloworm.
- Regulates bowel function. TMI, but it’s a fact!
- It helps the body get rid of toxins.
- Helps with weight loss.
- But still…
Often times, I have to force myself to drink water, but I know it’s soooo good for me! Only exceptions: on a really hot day, after a kick-booty workout, or with a really yummy meal at a restaurant. I can drink juice, milk, tea (regular or unsweetened), wine, soda, whatever—with no problem.
Speaking of soda…
I have never been addicted to sodas (or caffeine), but I do like having an occasional soda. Diet. Rarely regular. But of course, “real” sodas are bad and contain a boatload of sugar and then there are the 10 reasons we should give up diet soda. I get that there are artificial sweeteners and other ingredients present that we can’t pronounce, but I haven’t committed to 100% giving it up. Probably won’t ever…100%. I can say, sparkling water has allowed me the same feels as “soda” and it helps me reach my water goals. I have gone from (1) 12-ounce can of soda per day to maybe (1) 12 oz can per week.
LaCroix is my favorite brand of sparkling water. No sweeteners, no sodium, and no artificial flavors. I love it because it helps me reach my water goals and makes drinking water exciting! I recently went to Target on a mini-haul and discovered they had every single flavor I have been searching for since returning from Los Angeles in the fall. I’m still stalking every grocery store for the last two flavors I have not tried, “Cola” and “Tangerine”. I read a post where someone mentioned giving up all carbonated drinks. I wanted to know if carbonated water was included and was it bad. I had to do my research.

Here’s some great info from Healthline on carbonated water and how to keep it healthy:
Always read the ingredient list and keep a look out for additives, like sodium and sugar, to avoid negative consequences for your teeth and body. Be aware of the differences between the usual suspects:
- Club soda contains sodium, but seltzer water doesn’t.
- Tonic water contains added sweeteners and flavors.
- Flavored sparkling water may have added citric acid or natural sweeteners, along with caffeine and sodium.
Experiment with adding combinations of fresh fruits, herbs, cucumbers, and honey to plain carbonated water to change up the flavor.
Be mindful, there are brands that carry “sparkling water” but they do, in fact, have artificial sweeteners. If your goal is to wean yourself off of the artificial sweeteners—keep hope alive! “Naturally essenced” sparkling water beverages are an acquired taste. However, once you acquire it…you’ll love it for life!
