Under the Sea!
OK, first off, who else is basking in the excitement of The Little Mermaid live-action film? I can’t get “Under the Sea” out of my head. Speaking of things under the sea. I’ll be honest, I had reservations about imitation crab. It’s crazy because I love vegan food such as plant-based chicken, beef, etc. But with crab…I didn’t want anything imitation. I wanted to enjoy the real thing.
That was until I realized my love for creamy crab in the form of Crab Rangoon, was indeed imitation crab. I also then realized I already indulged in various forms of imitation crab and guess what? I liked it! This recipe was in partnership with Trans-Ocean Crab Classic, but of course, all opinions are my own.
Make it Classic!
Let’s talk about Crab Classic. What I especially love about Crab Classic is that it is made with a good source of protein and omega-3 as well as made from wild Alaska pollock which is also sustainably sourced. What you may not know about Alaskan Pollock is that it is one of the healthiest foods in the world!
Create a 5-Ingredient Recipe…Say LESS!
In partnership with Crab Classic, I challenged myself to create a 5-ingredient recipe: Creamy Crab and Spinach Toast Bites. I was thinking about what would be a great appetizer to serve, especially for our family get-togethers. I pretty much had in mind the flavor profile I wanted to go for. It’s so easy and comes together in no time. All you need is a food processor or the gift of chopping or shredding, all of the ingredients, a baking dish, and a stove! Dassit!
Ingredients
- Flake-Style Imitation Crab is perfect because it can be blended in the food processor. I prefer to have both fine pieces as well as flake-style chunkier pieces to add texture to the creamy mixture.
- Gournay Cheese is one of my favorite cheese blends to use in appetizers with seafood. As far as gournay cheese, I like this one. Additionally, it has garlic and herbs flavors that are undoubtedly bursting with each bite!
- Spinach is perfect because not only does it bulk up this creamy cheese mixture, but it gives you delicious greens.
- Green Onions are one of my absolute favorite vegetables to add to dishes. Whenever I make this appetizer, chives are also a delicious herb that can be added.
- Mini Toasts are the perfect pad to rest the creamy crab mixture on. If you can’t find mini toasts, you can use pita chips. They add the perfect crunch to the cheesy blend.
Tips and Substitutions!
- Feel free to substitute imitation crab for lump crab or your favorite crab.
- This is the garlic and herb gournay cheese I used for this recipe. If you can’t find it, use whatever cheese blend your heart desires. Get creative!
- Add more vegetables to your mixture.
- You can use melba mini toasts, pita chips, buttery-style crackers, or even bruschetta-style mini toasts for this recipe.
