Every time a National Burger Day rolls around it is a reminder that Birmingham, Alabama a.k.a. The Magic City has so many amazing places with great burgers.
National Cheeseburger Day was a reminder that Birmingham has soooo many amazing places with great burgers, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. But there’s one cheeseburger that may have slipped right by you. It’s from Metro Diner, one of my favorite restaurants new to Birmingham. You may also remember that I posted about them a few times before. They are known for their delicious fried chicken and quite possibly ALMOST as good as my Mama’s fried chicken was. Not up for debate, lol!
But let’s talk about this cheeseburger right here. It’s not your average cheeseburger…it’s THE Holy Davoli Burger. You guessed it…from Metro Diner!
It is a half pound Angus beef burger topped with lettuce slaw in between not one, but TWO, grilled CHEESE sandwiches stuffed with American cheese, tomatoes and cherrywood smoked bacon! You can even add a fried egg if you’re feeling adventurous. This is absolutely the case of when sharing is caring! This is one of MANY favorites here in Birmingham because we have so many awesome places here!
Of course I had to round up a few of my favorite burger spots that I think you should try or visit while you’re in Birmingham.
GREAT BURGERS AROUND THE MAGIC CITY
Travis Chicago Style Polish & Bear Burger – Chicago Bear Burger/ Grizzly Bear Burger/Polar Bear Burger/Grizzly Polar Bear Burger. IN THAT ORDER! Hometown favorite and Birmingham’s first food truck…and honestly in my Top 5. And when you get that greasy, brown bag, you know it’s REAL). All burgers come with juicy, Bear (beef) patties, onions, peppers, additional beef, and a special sauce. Now let me explain: The Chicago Bear is a plain burger. Still drool worthy. The Grizzly Bear comes with 2 Bear Patties and 2 slices of cheese. The Polar Bear Burger comes with 2 pieces of sausage, 1 Bear Patty, and 3 slices of cheese. The Grizzly Polar Bear comes with 2 pieces of sausage, 2 Bear Patties, and 4 slices of cheese (this one can be eaten over multiple meals or shared). Truly a taste of Chicago! They are ALL insanely good and Travis most certainly deserves to have his food truck featured on the Food Network.
