Made from Scratch
When I shared my Summer Berry Salad I talked about how fruity salads were never my jam. However, the more I started introducing them into my world, like this one and this one, I’ve been making my own dressings from scratch. But let’s be honest, there’s something really special about salad dressings made from scratch. For example, this Blackberry Jalapeño Sherry Vinaigrette. It’s super easy to make and it is incredibly versatile.
What you will need to make this Blackberry Jalapeño Sherry Vinaigrette:
- Blackberries: You will use extracted blackberry juice to add to the blackberry jalapeño jelly. Totally optional though.
- Blackberry Jalapeño Jelly: I’ve been obsessed with this jelly ever since I found it. Just a few tablespoons (per serving) and it will take this vinaigrette to the next level. If you can’t find blackberry jalapeño jelly in your local market, you can buy this jelly, OR use blackberry jelly with jalapeños in the mix and it will still work great!
- Sherry Vinegar: This vinegar is so rich and nutty, but not overpowering. Simply delicious and a new favorite!
- Jalapeños: With seeds removed (or kept) and diced to a fine consistency, jalapeños will add a little heat to this vinaigrette.
- Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: High-quality olive oil is best for making vinaigrette from scratch.
- Basil: Chopped basil gives this vinaigrette dressing such a fresh, herbaceous element.
- Thyme: Fresh thyme adds another element that goes perfectly with the chopped basil and garlic.
- Garlic: It’s so necessary. The more the better, but of course, it can be adjusted.
- Honey: If the blackberry jelly isn’t sweet enough, raw honey will add the perfect amount of sweetness.
- Crushed Chili Peppers: Because a little punch is always great.
- Salt and Black Pepper: Make your taste buds happy and adjust accordingly.
Various ways to use vinaigrette dressing:
- Salad dressing.
- This vinaigrette can be used as a marinade for broiled, grilled, or steamed protein or meat such as chicken, fish, etc.
- Let’s make a sandwich! Add this vinaigrette to your favorite Veggie Sub or favorite sandwich, or in the place of oil and vinegar.
- Make a dipping sauce for an appetizer tray: veggies, grilled chicken, fish, etc.
- Drizzle it over your favorite grilled, roasted meats, and even veggies. It’s so delicious over roasted Brussels sprouts, so make sure you check out this recipe.
- Blackberry Jalapeño Sherry Vinaigrette is also delicious over rice.
