Spring and Summer Indulgences.
Summer is here! I couldn’t wait to sit outside on the patio and listen to Blues music while indulging in good eats, but the rain had another plan for the long weekend. Mom, HB, and I decided not to BBQ, so we picked up takeout from our local barbecue spot, Uncle Sam’s. This was obviously the plan for most on this rainy day off in July. As we were finishing our southern spread, the rain finally stopped. We were happy that daylight was kind to us and so ready to go outside to relax on the back patio—and enjoy dessert!
The Ultimate No-Bake Dessert
I wanted to try something new and fun for summer! This Berry Cheesecake Trifle is absolutely divine and to many it’s considered a low calorie treat. You would would never know it because it is just that amazing! I love this colorful dessert because it’s a blend of fresh strawberries, blueberries, angel food cake, a hint of cheesecake, and creamy blissfulness! It’s perfect because it’s customizable with the option to make it sugar-free or a lower calorie alternative.
What is a trifle?
The traditional trifle is a common English dessert that originated around the 18th century. Most people recognize it right away with its beautiful layers of an assortment (and not limited to): fruit, sponge cake, pudding, custard, etc. The English typically served their trifle in a round dish with fruit and cake with homemade jelly. Here in the states, you will see it all: berries, cake, brownies, snack bar pieces, yogurt, you name it.
Trifles have been around my family for years. You can also enjoy them all year long–especially around the holidays. Trifles are perfect dessert dish when you are entertaining company for summer holidays (Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the 4th, etc.) or just when you want to hang out on the patio indulging in a delicious, sweet treat.
They are super easy to make and you know I had to figure out a way to incorporate a healthy swap! I mainly did this for my Mom who is diabetic. Being a WW member over the years, I learned how to make things taste good even when lowering the caloric elements.
Trifles bring out creativity!
It’s nice knowing that you can still enjoy the foods you love simply by making simple swaps. I also love trifles because you can freestyle it to your liking! There really isn’t a wrong way to make a trifle.
Options for your trifle:
I used cheesecake pudding flavor because it’s one of my favorites. I was in the mood for something cheesecake’ish, but you can absolutely use whatever flavor you would like.
My other pudding options would include: white chocolate and vanilla pudding mix!
For the Cake: you can use pound cake (such as vanilla our sour cream) instead of angel food cake.
What you will need:
- Fresh blueberries and strawberries
- Angel food cake
- Cheesecake Pudding Mix
- Cream cheese, regular, sugar-free or non-dairy. Cream cheese is optional, but a great addition to the cheesecake pudding mix).
- Milk
- Whipped topping
- Trifle dish or a dish deep enough to build trifle

I’m not a cheesecake fan but this looks delightful! Love all the berries.
Artney says
It’s really good with any flavor! White chocolate is my other favorite flavor. Yes, to the berries!
Cassi says
I’ve never had or made a trifle. What other fruits would you recommend using?
Artney says
I would definitely recommend any berries. I think bananas would be great too. I would probably be careful with melons because they may make the trifle too watery—but anything is worth a try!

Can I make this the night before? Wondering if it gets soggy? Thanks
My Pretty Brown Eats says
Yes, it will get soggy. It’s best to have all of your ingredients prepped and ready to go if you need to save time. Creamy layer filling and berries can be sliced and you can then layer your trifle. It honestly, will come together in less than 15 minutes. I hope this helps!

Where does the cream cheese get mixed in? It’s not listed in the instructions, but it’s in the ingredients list. There is also a spot in the directions that says ( doing the ). What’s that mean?
Artney says
The cream cheese is optional, but you can opt for only using cream cheese pudding mix. However, if you want to use both cream cheese and pudding mix, you can. There was a glitch in the card. I have refreshed it and the steps are there. Thank you!
