Slider Showdown
When I first found out about the White Castle Slider Showdown — I was like “BET! I can do this!” I immediately started brainstorming ideas on how I would remix the Classic Cheese sliders. I was thinking of football season, tailgating food, entertaining guests, and what my cousins, family, and I like to eat when we get together.
Avocado Queso Sliders? Thinking Outside of the Box.
Lucky for me, I’m surrounded by family and friends who like to explore food. It’s no secret when I’m on a quest to try something new, I always have willing participants. Avocado on a cheeseburger slider? Hear me out. I know how well sliders perform when it comes to game-day food, so I knew these would be a hit.
Ingredients for Taco Sliders:
- White Castle Classic Cheese Sliders: Whether there’s a White Castle near you or sold in your local grocery store, you will still experience these Avocado Queso Taco Sliders at home!
- Avocado: This fruit is often used as a condiment — and because of its smooth and creamy consistency. It makes the perfect spread on taco sliders.
- Queso Melting Cheese: Who said chips were the only ones to have all the fun? There’s something special about melted queso drizzled over these taco sliders.
- Queso Quesadilla (Melting) Shredded Cheese: This cheese is so good. It’s excellent on nachos, taco salads, and of course, taco sliders before baking them in the oven.
- Jalapeños: Fresh is best! If you don’t like spicy peppers, make sure you get mild jalapeños. If you want to kick it up a notch, use Serrano peppers!
- Pico de Gallo: Seriously, fresh pico is bae! I LOVE this salsa so much! If you have some chips on the side, you can use the extra pico and queso from the baking pan to dip your chips in.
- Cilantro: Of course if you’re making your pico de gallo from scratch, you’ll already have cilantro on hand. If not, feel free to toss chopped cilantro on the finished product before serving.
You already know Classic Cheese sliders already come with cheese, so I said I would add fresh guac instead of lettuce to the Avocado Queso Taco Sliders.
I also knew adding avocado (guacamole) to the sliders would turn out exceptionally well after cooking them in the oven. You can also use your favorite guacamole recipe.
More Additions
In addition, fresh jalapeños and pico de gallo add a deliciously, fresh element that makes you savor each bite. We can’t forget about the queso cheese. You have melted queso AND shredded queso blanco.
These sliders without a doubt will rock your world! Of course, you will top the sliders with shredded queso before adding the top bun and placing them in the oven. When they are finished cooking you will drizzle melted queso and more fresh pico on top!
This recipe is truly for those who like to be adventurous. If you’re one of those afraid to try something new, you don’t know what you are missing. Seriously, they turned out great!
Tips, swaps, and subs!
If you can’t find Classic Cheese sliders, you can add your own sliced cheese such as cheddar, American, or pepperjack!
Instead of avocado, you can spice things up and use fresh guacamole. This Chunky “Tableside” Guacamole is one of my favorites. You can find the recipe here.
If you use avocado, you can add fresh pico de gallo and mix it together.
