The gift of organ donation will create a Legacy of Hope by helping to save lives and make an impact for generations to come.
This post is sponsored by Legacy of Hope, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
I first learned about organ donation and its impact when I was in college. A classmate of mine was an organ recipient, and I remember how ecstatic they were after receiving the news. Often times, if something doesn’t affect you personally or someone you love, you don’t really think about it. Knowing someone’s life could be preserved through organ donation will change your life forever.
Over the years, I’ve even met the most amazing people (who are also now my dear friends) whose lives have been transformed through organ donation, including a heart and kidney transplant. Their hope is restored thanks to generosity!
The Impact of Organ Donation
Did you know that 585 lives were saved in Alabama last year thanks to organ donors? A single donor can save eight lives. EIGHT!
• There are also more than 115,000 individuals waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
• Of those individuals, more than 1,445 Alabamians are on the lifesaving transplant list.
• Every ten minutes, someone is added to the national organ transplant waiting list — and every day 20 people die waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
The generosity of every single donor makes a difference. Saying “yes” to organ donation can have a significant impact. That one choice gives many individuals a new life!
About Legacy of Hope
Legacy of Hope is the organ, eye and tissue donor registry for the state of Alabama. Legacy serves as the voice of the donor when they cannot speak for themselves. Everyone in Alabama that checks “yes” to organ donation at the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office is included within Legacy’s organ donor registry.
