For those who didn’t know, I celebrate my birthday for an entire month. It allows me to do fun things that I wouldn’t be able to cram into one day. Not to mention, my birthday for the past few years has been in the middle of the week. We all know that you can’t turn up on a school night! Normally I kick off my birthday with a run and total mileage being my age. Example, for my 35th, I ran a 3.5 mile run to celebrate 35 years of life.
Am I the only one who thinks about food while running? I usually have my restaurant already picked out, and I like to try a new place in Birmingham every year. Speaking of Birmingham, did you know we were named #1 on Zagat’s list of America’s Next Hot Food Cities? You can check out the article here. And…ICYMI: you can check out some other amazing restaurants on my Eat Drink Birmingham recap posted here OR in my Birmingham Eats section here.
There are so many great places to dine here in Birmingham. One of the restaurants that made the list has the BEST GUAC in the city, hands down. It’s called Babalu Tacos & Tapas (Birmingham). I visited Babalu’s for the first time a few years ago. You can check out my review here.
Let’s get to these delicious eats!
APERITIVOS!
Guacamole + fresh jalapenos and bacon made tableside.
TAPAS!
Creole Shrimp & Grits — The shrimp and grits are not like my usual creamy consistency. However, the herb sauce mixed with crushed red pepper, mushrooms, and cilantro made this dish exquisite!
Garlic Rosti Potatoes with Teriyaki Glaze — Seriously some of the best potatoes I have ever had…like EVER!
