Can you believe it is already November and that Christmas is almost here? This time of year is special for many reasons. I was blessed to grow up in a household with parents who showed us how to celebrate life’s greatest moments. The older I get, the more I realize that it’s not about material things, but about spending time with the ones you love.
The holiday season is the perfect time to host gatherings with family and friends. Last year was a bit of a fog for me, but over the course of the year, I have had time to reflect and recognize how blessed I am for every moment. I’m also excited to spend time with friends and entertain.
I love to have a good time! In the Spirit of Sarah, I couldn’t celebrate the season any other way. There are a few things that are a must when entertaining during the holiday season:
Food (of course…)
Entertaining can be simple and fun when it comes to food. I love a simple cheese tray and guests always love it. You can add olives, crackers, dried fruit, nuts or whatever you would like. A cheese tray goes great with wine as well. I absolutely love Wente Vineyards, which is also a new favorite, that I’ll get to in a minute.
Dessert
When it comes to holiday treats, I keep certain desserts in the rotation. I generally taper off my pumpkin spice favorites to make room for peppermint. After getting so frustrated with trying to locate Peppermint Bark a few years ago, I decided I was going to learn how to make it myself. I made it last year and it was an absolute hit! It’s one of my highly requested treats and the perfect grab and go dessert for entertaining. Depending on your taste buds, you may also consider pairing chocolate with wine.
Wine
Msg 4 21+: There was a time when I would not drink red wine. At all! Over the past year or so, I have absolutely fallen in love with red wine. It is an acquired taste. When you find a favorite (or two), you stick with them. Also, some wine drinkers may think I’m crazy, but I love my red wine chilled. Don’t knock it until you try it. I know it’s good practice to drink it room temperature to test out the quality, but I’m one of those: either I love it or hate it. It’s also all about preference. Wente Vineyards Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon (single vineyard) is bold, with a nice balance of ripe fruit flavors. It has deliciously become one of my new favorites.
